last updated 3 years ago # CommentsVerisimilidude, yes, I agree that 6:00 a.m. is too-freakin'-early for most hackers. But one subtle, though big thing, in favor of doing this in the morning at 6 is that during summertime in Chicago, sunrise is around 5:15 a.m. In late June, I swear sometimes it feels like it's even getting light outside at 4:45 a.m. So at least in the summer, I found myself waking up to the sun naturally around 5 anyway (unless I stayed up 'till 4 coding)... Yeah, in the dead of winter, after day-light-savings, and it's 20 below -- 6:00 a.m. would be brutal... But dude... 6:00 a.m. in the summer in Chicago is pretty freakin sweet. And for the same reason (summers in Chicago being so sweet) there are a million and one activities competing for your attention at 6 p.m.--- Not so at 6:00 a.m., other than sleep. Get up, get outside, and get your code on. What better way to start your week than working on the projects that you love? -Jason P.S. If TECHcoffee(AM) is a success, I have no problem with someone starting a TECHcoffee(PM) (Someone else would have to organize that one, though. Hint, hint. :-) In case it wasn't already obvious, i am committed to being at the first one, 6am this coming Monday. I might be dragging in a little late, but am planning on being there... JoshMcAdams Does this have to stop w/ the end of the summer? No fair! I only just found out about it, and would love to take part. - Thomas Yager-Madden Thomas, Nope it doesn't have to stop to with summer... "Season 1" ended on Labor day, though. Season 2 will begin on October 16 (check the TechCoffee blog for updates.) I'm playing a little trick here.... By breaking up TechCoffee into "seasons", it makes it easier to get people to commit to attending. So instead of thinking "Gee, I don't want to promise to show up at 6 a.m. every week for the rest of my life"... You only have to get yourself to waking up this early for one season at a time... Every monday morning for only 4-6 weeks? Sure, I can do that! :-) Add a commentyou're not logged in |

Let's see... Get there at six means leave here at five, means set the alarm for four -- no, better set it for 3:45 so I can hit it once. To get my needed eight hours sleep (otherwise I can't code - wish I could be a manager; I can give productive input in meetings but not in code on less sleep) means I hit the sack at 7:45. Pushing myself to get in by 10 has proven difficult. But I see your social push thing Jason. And agree with it. The only thing that would get me pushing the bits on my ground breaking ideas would be if I was expected to show up by other people. No promises though. Not yet anyway.
